Jaro Mazzola joins Hungry to Help as a volunteer board member. He seeks to support and enhance the important mission of the Foundation, which began in 2003 when it was founded by his mother, Elena Mazzola.
Jaro is Legal Counsel in the Office of the Chief Justice of the Federal Court. Prior to returning to the National Capital Region, from 2012 to 2019, Jaro worked in Toronto where he practised commercial litigation, with an emphasis in intellectual property matters, at one of Canada’s largest National law firms. Jaro has also appeared as a guest lecturer in the Intellectual Property in Health Law course in the Professional LLM program at Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to that, Jaro clerked for the Honourable Mr. Justice Zinn of the Federal Court and worked as a Research Assistant at the Supreme Court of Canada.
Jaro is fluent in English, French and Spanish and is a member of the Ontario Bar.
Since his teenage years, Jaro has had some sort of role within the Foundation. Either by helping serve spaghetti sauce during one of the Foundation’s fund raisers, or by selling his old books and toys during a garage sale which donated all of its proceeds to the Foundation, or by listening in on strategic planning conversations that inevitably happened between his parents at the dinner table as he grew up, Jaro has been there throughout the life of the Foundation.
Jaro’s long-time knowledge of how the foundation functions and has evolved over the years will serve an important role in propelling the Foundation towards its next step, which includes providing free meals to an increased number of hungry children.
We welcome Jaro as an official board member.
